Lorawan gateway offers a wide range of Lora gateway for different communication. Lora gateway is the technology that is used to communicate with low-power sensors in a large range. It uses static or mobile network infrastructure (Base stations). The transmitter is known as LORAWAN Gateway and the receiver is known as the LORAWAN end node. The field of smart cities and IoT is constantly evolving, and with it the LoRaWAN gateway. The next-generation gateway is coming soon. I have just implemented a POC using SBC and SX1301 concentrator chips.
LoRaWAN targets key requirements of the internet of things such as secure bi-directional communication, mobility, and localization services. Lora is the best option when you need to send data over long distances. The new features which we have incorporated in the gateway are as follows: 1. Class A and C End Nodes support 2. Higher range 3. Longer battery life 4. Lower power consumption 5. Ultra-fast setup time 6. Less equipment cost.
We’ll start with the basics: what is a gateway? A gateway, or base station, is a network device equipped with a transceiver and antenna to receive packets from and send packets to end devices through a channel. This channel may be wired or wireless, depending on your use case. Learn more about how gateways work and the advantages of having them on a wired or wireless network in previous blog posts here (link 1) and here(link 2). With the improved IoT trends, this new technology is in the process of making their gateway custom-built, to make sure they’re able to implement the best features and functionality.
There are several upcoming feature enhancements planned in the Lorawan gateway, some of which include: Relay Mode Support, Reduced Network Latency, Improved Security Features, and EU868 Compliance (Jan 2019). This is the Lorawan gateway, Lorawan Gateway (also known as “concentrator”) collects data from the LoRa node and then forwards data to the backend server through the IP network. It is an actual gateway in the sense that it translates LoRa protocol to IP protocol that’s accepted by the backend server like TTN. The message transmitted from LoRa nodes is captured by one or more gateways and then relayed to The Things Network (TTN) cloud backend which stores and processes the data coming from gateways.
A long-range gateway gives you a longer reach for your LoRawan network. One LoRaWAN gateway can have a 100km plus radio range, so successful communication counts on the gateway to cover this distance to establish the connection. With the growing need for connectivity, more and more actors are installing gateways to connect networks. The Gateway is a battery and/or solar-powered, outdoor Ip67 grade wireless gateway that implements the LoRaWAN™ specification. It can be used to bridge Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) running specific protocol(s) and IP-based networks.
A revolutionary combination of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, LoRaWAN makes the most economical connectivity you can imagine. The devices are running just one-third of a coin cell (emitting 5 years), device packages the size of a matchbox, the ability to communicate through walls and miles between devices. Gateway is an essential building block for the Lora network. Lora gateway is a device that supports Lora technology and communicates with the end node by sending and receiving packets.
Enhance Your IoT Projects with The Things Network. A Gateway that connects to a wide array of sensors and gateways, Bluetooth Low Energy beacon support, an API or REST endpoint, and a bridge framework for integration. Tried and tested in the field, Lora supports long-distance wireless applications with secure bi-directional communication. Over the air, you can update each module individually or perform a mass update for all your modules at once.
